SPINNING FLAX INTO LINEN

Participants must feel comfortable making a continuous yarn on a spinning wheel or drop spindle.

The curriculum for this fun and legend-filled one-day class will include:

· A 17-minute film on flax processing

· Exploring line strick for a finer yarn

· Dressing various distaffs

· Spinning singles

· Scouring your skeins

· Yarn counts

Participants should bring their treadle wheel; single drive, double drive, flyer lead, or bobbin lead are all OK.

AN INTRODUCTION TO SCANDINAVIAN COVERLETS & SLEIGH BLANKETS

Susan's fascination with Scandinavian weaving is apparent in everything created on her looms. She has exhausted the study mounting hand-woven textiles onto sheepskins to create warm, cozy bed coverings or sleigh blankets. Monk’s Belt, Overshot, and Smalandsväv structures are just a few she has mounted onto sheepskins or quilted onto fabric. Susan will share examples of her Sleigh Blankets and demonstrate the hand sewing of pelts.
